Job Summary
The Department of Information Studies (DIS) invites applications for one (1) full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The date of appointment is August 1, 2025.

Located within the Faculty of Education, Community, and Human Development, DIS offers the Library and Information Technology Diploma in both online and on-campus formats as well as the Library Technician Post-diploma Certificate.

We seek collegial applicants who demonstrate our shared passion for, and commitment to, excellence in undergraduate teaching in a student-centered environment; who successfully integrate both current technologies and their scholarship into teaching; and who are experienced in the delivery of customer service in different types of libraries as well as possibilities to teach in cross-disciplines (such as Adult Education or Office Programs).

We are particularly interested in applicants who have expertise in technical services (i.e., metadata and cataloguing) and/or public services. The successful candidate will teach a range of subjects across the Department’s programs, including foundational and elective courses, and will contribute to curriculum and program development and improvement. The candidate will be required to teach face-to-face on the Abbotsford campus and online (i.e., both hybrid and asynchronous delivery).

Applicants must be committed to scholarship that supports applied and experiential learning at a primarily undergraduate, regional, teaching university. They are also expected to commit to ongoing professional development related to their teaching, scholarship, and service, especially as these inform undergraduate library education.

Qualifications
The minimum requirements are a Master of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) from an American Library Association-accredited program and five years of full-time, professional experience. Strong preference will be given to those who have completed – or reached candidacy in – a PhD in LIS or a related field. Applicants without the minimum qualifications will not be considered.

Applicants must have relevant, demonstrable expertise in one or more areas of DIS curricula. Previous teaching experience in a postsecondary setting, either in-person or online, is required. Candidates who have experience working within Indigenous contexts and/or sincere, demonstrable interest in contributing to the decolonization of curricula are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with learning management systems is a definite asset.
