The School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is one of the largest training centres for speech therapists and audiologists in North America. Its mission is to advance knowledge in communication sciences and disorders, in particular in the areas of speech, language, swallowing, hearing and balance.

Numerous research centres in the greater Montreal area are affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal. As a professor in the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, you will be invited to develop your research program in our on-campus facilities, in a hospital or rehabilitation setting, or in one of the research centres, depending on your area of research.

Your day-to-day impact
Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Actively teaching courses offered within the clinical speech-language pathology program as well as graduate research programs in speech-language pathology and audiology, using a variety of pedagogical methods and formats;
  • Developing a research program in speech-language pathology related to school-age populations, with a focus on areas such as intervention for learning disability and the use of curriculum-based approaches;
  • Supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in speech-language pathology and audiology or other programs in the context of interdisciplinary or intersectoral collaborations;
  • Implementing research and knowledge transfer activities in your field of expertise related to speech-language pathology;
  • Contributing to the promotion of speech-language pathology within scientific and professional communities, as well as in the general population through community partnerships;
  • Contributing actively to academic life and the strategic development of the speech-language pathology program through involvement in various committees and bodies within the School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and the Faculty of Medicine.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Hold a doctorate in speech-language pathology or a related discipline;
  • Show substantial experience and research productivity in your field of expertise;
  • Hold postdoctoral research training or demonstrate evidence of independent research, including action research and interprofessional collaboration;
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop internal, national, and international collaborations;
  • Show an aptitude for delivering quality university-level teaching;
  • Demonstrate the ability to supervise graduate students;
  • Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.
